The Merced County Board of Education consists of five members elected by voters in their trustee area.
Members of the Merced County Board of Education also serve as trustees for the Virginia Smith Trust.
The four-year terms are staggered to allow continuity. The trustees are responsible for adopting the annual County Office of Education Local Control and Accountability Plan and budget.
Trustees meet the third Monday of each month, with the exception of some months in which a holiday falls on the third Monday.
